Your mail stays on your Mac.

Effective October 31, 2026

In short

What the app stores, and where

To show your inbox, Sovo downloads your messages, attachments and folder list from your mail server and keeps them in a database on your Mac, so the app opens instantly and works offline. Account passwords and sign-in tokens are encrypted with the macOS Keychain and are only ever sent to your own mail server. None of this leaves your Mac except as described below.

Google user data

If you sign in with Google, Sovo asks for access to your Gmail (the https://mail.google.com/ scope) so it can connect over IMAP and SMTP to read, search, send, label, move and delete your mail at your request. Sovo also reads your email address to show which account is signed in. Gmail data is used only to provide these features inside the app, on your Mac.

Sovo's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Gmail data for advertising, do not sell it, do not let humans read it, and do not use it to train AI models.

Optional AI features

AI features are off by default. If you add your own Anthropic or OpenAI key and switch a feature on, the sender, subject and text of the messages that feature works on are sent from your Mac directly to that provider, with your key, when the feature runs. Sovo has no server in between. That provider's terms and privacy policy apply to those requests. You can switch any feature off, or remove your key, at any time in Settings → AI.

Deleting your data

Removing an account in Sovo deletes its mail and saved credentials from your Mac. To remove everything, quit Sovo and delete its folder in ~/Library/Application Support/Sovo. You can also revoke Sovo's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
